Silver Peak

Silver Peak develops data center class network appliances and management tools that maximize WAN performance while minimizing WAN costs. The company’s unique network approach to WAN optimization delivers unprecedented scalability and flexibility, making Silver Peak’s WAN optimization solution a strategic enabler for key IT initiatives, including data center consolidation, data migration, disaster recovery, server centralization, and global application / desktop virtualization.

NX (Physical Appliances)

Silver Peak's NX appliances were designed to meet the rigorous WAN optimization requirements of  large enterprises, delivering the industry's top performance, scalability, and reliability.

Unique Advantages;

  • High Capacity: Silver Peak's NX appliances scale from Mbps to Gbps of WAN capacity in a single device. At the high end, Silver Peak's NX appliances deliver over three times the LAN/WAN throughput, disk capacity, and simultaneous flows as the next closest WAN optimization solution. This makes Silver Peak the most cost effective WAN optimization solution for large networks.
  • Optimize ALL IP applications: Silver Peak NX appliances optimize all IP traffic regardless of transport protocol and application software version. Silver Peak's optimization techniques minimize latency, making them ideal for real-time applications like Voice over IP (VoIP), video, and VDI in addition to traditional file, email and web traffic.

NX Features

All NX appliances support Silver Peak's real-time Network Acceleration, Network Integrity (including QoS), and Network Memory features to overcome common WAN bandwidth, latency and quality challenges.

Global Management System

GMS provides IT managers with all of the tools necessary to centrally configure, monitor, and manage a Silver Peak-enabled Wide Area Network (WAN).

GMS ensures fast and accurate configuration of Silver Peak NX, VX and VRX appliances.  New appliances can be pre-provisioned prior to shipping and then automatically discovered and registered using the GMS platform.  In addition, Silver Peak provides an automated deployment wizard to assist with the configuration of these devices.  Enterprise-wide policies (e.g., Access Control Lists and bandwidth contracts) can be created and applied using customized templates within GMS, ensuring consistent configuration across numerous Silver Peak appliances, regardless of location.Rapid deployment of Silver Peak appliances

Simplified device management

GMS facilitates day-to-day administrative tasks across an entire distributed network of Silver Peak appliances.  This includes scheduled configuration backups, automatic software updates, and other vital device management functions.  In addition, GMS can be used to drill down into individual appliances for specific configuration, monitoring, and management tasks.

Centralized network monitoring

GMS provides a single, centralized “launch point” for monitoring a Silver Peak-enabled WAN.  This includes easy to use dashboards that provide essential real-time information, such as device status and usage statistics, WAN metrics, and alarms.  Automatic email notifications ensure that IT staff are always in the loop – facilitating day-to-day performance monitoring and ensuring that faults are always isolated and resolved in a timely and cost effective manner.

Extensive reporting capabilities

GMS provides extensive reporting capabilities that assist with capacity management, network planning, auditing, troubleshooting, ROI analysis, and SLA enforcement.  Both real-time and historical reports are available, including traffic statistics (data reduction, TCP flow counts, latency/loss characteristics, bandwidth allocation), application behavior (top ten applications, bandwidth allocation per application), and alarms.  This information can be exported from GMS for easy manipulation and long term storage.

Secure access

GMS offers different levels of user access that provide varying degrees of read and write privileges.  Support for TACACS+ and RADIUS ensures easy integration with existing authentication systems.

A Web interface (using HTTPS) ensures seamless and secure access to the GMS platform from virtually any location.

Flexible deployment options

GMS comes as a standalone network appliance (with an integrated SQL database), or as a virtual appliance that runs on industry standard servers. Both platforms are easy to setup and maintain, and provide GMS' full range of monitoring, reporting, and administrative functions.

VRX (Virtual Appliances)

Silver Peak’s VRX appliances are the first and only virtual WAN optimization devices designed for the rigors of data center deployment.

With industry leading capacity and built-in support for all popular Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) replication applications, Silver Peak VRX appliances meet the requirements of  today’s most demanding data center-to-data center initiatives, including data replication, data migration, and disaster recovery.

Silver Peak VRX appliances leverage the same advanced real-time network optimization technology as Silver Peak NX and VX appliances to overcome common WAN challenges that adversely impact data center initiatives. This includes Network Acceleration to overcome WAN latency, Network Integrity to correct packet delivery issues and intelligently allocate WAN resources, and Network Memory™ to maximize WAN bandwidth utilization.

By running as a virtual machine, VRX appliances leverage all the benefits of server virtualization, which include ease of deployment, reduced hardware costs, mobility, and high availability.
